Bugle or bugleweed with botanical name ajuga reptans, is an herbaceous plant of the Lamiaceae (mint) family. It is a broad-leaved, evergreen, or semi-evergreen plant that always covers the ground.
Its compact, dense mats feature small clusters of beautiful purple flowers that appear in mid to late spring. These dense mats help keep weeds down, but do not plant them near beds or lawns, as removing them can be a problem.
Bugleweed is suitable for mass plantings in naturalized areas, on slopes and forest edges, or in gardens. In cool, shady areas where grasses do not grow, bugleweed makes a thick and attractive ground cover plant.
This plant is native to Europe, North Africa, and Southwest Asia.
