Commonly known as bully trees, this genus has the botanical name sideroxylon.
It is found primarily in North and South America, but also in Africa, Madagascar, South Asia, and various oceanic islands.
Certain lepidopteran larvae obtain their foods from bully trees. For example, the bumeria webworm moth (urodus parvula) and several species of coleoptera of the genus plinthocoelium, commonly known as the bumeria borers.
