The California black walnut, whose scientific name is juglans californica, is a large shrub or small tree about 6 to 15 meters tall in the walnut family.
Also called California walnut or Southern California black walnut, it is native to Southern California.
The tree grows in riparian forests as a single species or in combination with California oak and cottonwoods.
It has large, pinnate compound leaves with 11 to 19 lanceolate lobes. The leaf margins are serrated and the angular veins are hairless.
