The camphorwood, botanically named cinnamomum camphora, is a species of evergreen tree also known as camphor tree or camphor laurel.

The leaves look waxy and shiny and smell of camphor when crushed.

The camphor content of the deciduous fallen branches prevents other plants from germinating and may compete with other vegetation.

The camphor tree contains volatile compounds in all its parts and the wood and leaves are distilled to make essential oils.
