Common maidenhair fern with the scientific name adiantum aethiopicum is a small fern found widely in Africa, Australia, Norfolk Island and New Zealand.

This fern is a popular and well known ornamental plant.

In Europe, it is used in the production of "Sirop de Capt'llaire" which is said to relieve chest pain.
