European box, scientific name buxus sempervirens, is a species of flowering plant in the genus boxwood native to western and southern Europe, northwestern Africa, and southwestern Asia.
Also known as common box or boxwood, it is an evergreen shrub or small tree, 1-9 m tall, with a trunk up to 20 cm in diameter.
The leaves are green to yellowish green, grow in pairs along the stem, and are elliptic, 1.5 to 3 cm long and 0.5 to 1.3 cm wide.
