Five-needle pine, whose botanical name is pinus parviflora, is a pine of the white pine family, subgenus strobus of the red pine family, native to Korea and Japan.
Also known as Ulleungdo white pine, or Japanese white pine, it is a coniferous evergreen tree that grows 15-25 m tall and forms a broad, dense, conical canopy.
The leaves are needle-like, 5-6 cm long, and in clusters of five.
Five-needle pine is widely grown as an ornamental tree in parks and gardens, and is also a popular bonsai tree.
