The flowering dogwood, with the botanical name cornus florida, is a species of flowering tree in the dogwood family native to eastern North America and northern Mexico.
It is a small deciduous tree with a height of 10 meters and a trunk diameter of up to 30 cm.
This tree is also called American dogwood, Florida dogwood, Indian arrowwood, Cornelian tree, white cornel, white dogwood, false box, and false boxwood.
The leaves are simple, opposite growing, ovate, 6-13 cm long, 4-6 cm wide, with visible margins. They turn a deep reddish-brown color in the fall.
