Golden ball, scientific name echinocactus grusonii, is a species of barrel cactus endemic to east central Mexico.
Also called golden barrel cactus or mother-in-law's cushion, it grows wild on volcanic rocks on slopes at elevations of about 1,400 meters.
This cactus grows into a large, leathery sphere that can eventually reach a height of over a meter after many years.
Golden ball is considered easy to cultivate and grows relatively rapidly in warm climates around the world.
