Golden barrel cactus, whose botanical name is echinocactus grusonii, is an endemic cactus in east-central Mexico.
Commonly known as golden ball or mother-in-law's cushion, it grows as a large world ball and can eventually exceed 1 m after a few years.
The sharp spines are long, straight, or slightly curved, with various yellow patterns, or sometimes white.
After about 20 years, small yellow flowers appear around the crown of the plant in summer.
