Hemlock, scientific name conium maculatum, is a highly poisonous biennial herbaceous flowering plant of the apiaceae carrot family native to Europe and North Africa.
Also known colloquially as poison hemlock or wild hemlock, it is an herbaceous biennial flowering plant that grows to a height of 1.5 to 2.5 meters.
The leaves are generally triangular, 2 to 4 pinnate, finely lobed and lacy, up to 50 centimeters long and 40 centimeters wide.
This plant contains coniine and several similar alkaloids that are toxic and harmful to all humans and animals that eat them.
