Japanese maple tree has the scientific name acer palmatum. It is also known as palmate maple, or smooth Japanese maple (Japanese: irohamomiji or momiji).
It is a species of woody plant native to Japan, Korea, China, eastern Mongolia and southeastern Russia.
In Japan, the tree has been cultivated for centuries. Likewise, in temperate regions around the world.
Especially in Japan, iromomiji is used as an accent tree in Japanese gardens. It provides soft hues next to the house in summer and beautiful colors in autumn.
Even in nature, this tree shows considerable genetic variation. Seedlings from the same parent tree usually have different characteristics such as leaf size, shape and color.
