Pittosporum crassifolium, commonly called karo, is a small tree or shrub native to New Zealand.

Karo has dark gray-green leaves that look hairy and leathery underneath.

In the spring, clusters of small reddish-purple flowers appear, then grow into seed pods and split open to reveal sticky seeds.

An adult karo tree can grow to a height of about 5 meters.
