Macadamia nut, whose botanical name is macadamia tetraphylla, is a tree in the family Proteaceae.
The plant is native to southern Queensland and northern New South Wales, Australia.
Macadamia nuts were the first indigenous Australian food crop to be cultivated as a commodity crop by non-indigenous Australians.
As the name "tetraphylla" suggests, the plant usually has four leaves that are approximately equidistant around each leaf node.
