The Matsuzaka fern, scientific name pteris nipponica, is a species of fern in the family pteridaceae.
Its Japanese name, Matsuzakashida, is taken from the name of the Matsuzaka area in Mie Prefecture, because it is said to have been first cultivated by a gardener in Matsuzaka and spread to the world from there.
The leaves usually have white spots, and have two different shapes, one is a nourishing leaf without sporangia and the other is a sporophyll leaf with a sporophyll on the underside of the leaf.
Its distribution includes Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
