Medinilla speciosa is a perennial epiphyte in the genus Medinilla in the family Melastomataceae.

This evergreen shrub has a woody two-pronged stem and opposite leathery green leaves (up to 20 cm long and 15 cm wide) with prominent veins.

This plant can reach an average height of 45-60 cm.

Once flowering is complete in about a month, a conspicuous tribe of berries remains, waiting to flower again.
