Oriental holly, scientific name ilex purpurea, is a type of holly, a flowering plant in the aquifoliaceae family.

In traditional Chinese medicine, this plant is named dōng qīng and is one of the 50 basic herbs used.

The root can be applied topically to promote wound healing and treat skin infections and burns.

It is also believed to improve conditions such as high blood pressure, cough, chest tightness, and asthma.
