Scientifically named maclura pomifera, Osage orange is a small deciduous tree or large shrub native to the south-central United States.
It also has many other names, including mock orange, hedge apple, hedge, horse apple, monkey ball, monkey brains and yellow-wood.
The leaves are dark green, thick and tough, glossy on top and pale green underneath when fully mature.
The fruits are distinctive, nearly round and wavy, 8-15 cm in diameter, but are usually not eaten by humans or animals.
