Pigeonwood, scientific name hedycarya arborea, is a tree endemic to New Zealand.
Also known as porokaiwhiri or poporokaiwhiri, it is found in the country's North and South Islands.
The tree typically grows up to 15 meters tall and has shallowly serrated oval leaves.
The ripe fruit is red, but the New Zealand wood pigeon dislike it and tend to eat it as "hunger food".
