The renga lily, scientific name Arthropodium cirratum, is a species of herbaceous perennial plant endemic to New Zealand.
Also called rengarenga, New Zealand rock lily, or maikaika, it is native to the north of Greymouth and Kaikoura near the ocean and, as its name suggests, usually grows wild on rocks.
The Maori word rengarenga is a repetition of the Polynesian ancestral word renga, which means turmeric, especially in powder form.
The renga lily is often used medicinally as well as for food, and has symbolic importance in traditional Maori culture.
