Sakaki (scientific name Cleyera japonica) is an evergreen tree native to warm regions of Japan, Taiwan, China, Myanmar, Nepal and northern India.
This tree is one of the most common trees found in the second layer of evergreen oak forests.
Sakaki wood is usually used for tools (especially combs), building materials, and firewood.
In Japanese Shinto beliefs, the sakaki tree is considered sacred and is one of the classic offerings at shrines.
