Sickle spleenwort, scientifically known as asplenium polyodon, is a member of the aspleniaceae family native to New Zealand.
These spikes are recognized by their long, curved midrib, dark brown, highly scaly scapes and auricles, and auricles that are doubly serrated with enlarged basal acrosopic lobes.
Sickle spleenwort ferns are found on Raul Island and in lowland to mountainous areas throughout the North Island, from near sea level to Mount Taranaki.
Habitats include kauri, podocarp, broadleaf, beech, coastal forests, under manuka and kanuka, and under pines.
