Sorrel, botanical name rumex acetosa, is a perennial herbaceous plant in the family polygonaceae.
Also called common sorrel or garden sorrel, it is a slender, herbaceous perennial plant about 60 cm tall.
The plant has roots that extend deep into the soil, watery stems and arrow-shaped leaves (sagittate).
Sorrel is common in grassland habitats throughout Europe, from the northern Mediterranean coast to northern Scandinavia and parts of Central Asia, where it is often grown as a leafy vegetable or herb.
