Spanish moss, with the scientific name tillandsia usneoides, is an epiphyte of tropical and subtropical climates.
It is a flowering plant (angiosperm) in the family bromeliaceae.
This plant often grows in large trees and hangs from the branches in full sun through partial shade.
As its name suggests it resembles usnea moss, but it is neither a moss nor a native of Spain.
This plant is mainly native to Mexico, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Central America, South America, the southern United States and the West Indies.
