Also called bull thistle or common thistle, it is native to much of Europe, western Asia, and northwest Africa.
This plant is a biennial or short-lived monocarpic thistle.
It forms a rosette of leaves and main roots in the first year and a flower stalk in the second year.
Spear thistle has fine, pappus hairs with fine lateral hairs.
