Speargrass (scientific name piptochaetium) is a genus of grasses native to North and South America.
It is a genus of bunchgrasses of the Stipae tribe, and some of its species are included by several authors in the genus Stipa.
Some of its species include, for example, black oatgrass, blackseed needlegrass (piptochaetium avenaceum) in the United States, Uruguayan ricegrass (piptochaetium montevidense), or bristly speargrass from Chile, etc.
