Sugarberry with the botanical name celtis laevigata is a medium-sized tree native to North America.
It also has other names including Southern hackberry, or in the southern U.S. sugar hackberry or just hackberry.
This tree grows primarily in moist soils along rivers and on floodplains.
Sugarberry fallen leaves are known to contain allelopathic chemicals that inhibit the growth of many other plant species.
