Toyon, with the scientific name Heteromeles arbutifolia, is a perennial shrub belonging to the Rosaceae family.

Also called Christmas berry or California holly, it is native to southwestern Oregon and the Baja California Peninsula.

The leaves are alternate, evergreen, with short petioles and sharp serrations, 5-10 cm long and 2-4 cm wide.

Native Americans made tea from the leaves as a stomachic.
