Tsuwabuki, with the scientific name farfugium japonicum, is a Japanese evergreen perennial that always grows green leaves even in winter and lasts for many years.
Japanese name of tsuwabuki comes from buki (butterbur) and tsuwa (glossy), or " butterbur with glossy leaves".
Since tsuwabuki grows well in the shade, it is a favorite horticultural plant for rocks and tree roots in Japanese gardens.
