The rubber fig, whose botanical name is ficus elastica, is a species of flowering plant in the mulberry family native to South Asia and eastern Southeast Asia.

Also called rubber bush, rubber tree, rubber plant, or Indian rubber bush, Indian rubber tree, it contains a milky latex that forms into rubber, but is not economical.

The rubber fig is a large tree of the Banyan ara group, usually growing to 30-40 m with a sturdy trunk up to 2 m in diameter.

The leaves are broad, oval and glossy, largest on young plants and much smaller on older trees.
