What is history?
In my personal definition, history is about yesterday, and is about the past.
Every individual has its own personal definition of history.
For George Santayana, “those who will not learn the lessons of the past, it will condemn to repeat itself”.
For some historians, “history does not repeat itself, we repeat history”.
What is interesting about history?
History is interesting because you get to know and understand more about your culture, your roots, where you come from, your country, even politics.
Once you start to like history, you will love to have a conversation to someone who likes history too. And even you can explain and educate the people about history.
Believe me, I have been there.
Now the question is, why most people and most students get bored when we speak about history??
Well, I know the feeling of being bored. In my childhood years, I did not like to hear the word “history” until a friend of mine kept talking to me about Adolf Hitler. He would always tell me he likes Germany and he can speak German language.
Well Adolf Hitler was not a German to begin with.
In my personal observation, people do not like history because it is useless to talk about the past and they do not understand the importance of it. They would always say it has nothing to do to the present and for the future. For me this sounds weird. I always learn my past and act the lessons in the present day for a better future.
Everyone has its own history. I heard this from someone “history is nothing but only to those important events”. I maybe agree with this, but only in books too. How about our personal history?
People get bored in history probably because they have no interest on what’s written in the book and the way how the teachers teach to their students.
I hope I can meet people who do not have interest in history but have interest to spend little time with me. And I can explain to them that history is an important matter.
