Do You Think You Are Good Enough To Be A Writer? Agatha Christie had learning difficulties and she did ok!

You may know now that one of my biggest passions is to support people with their writing journey's despite their learning difficulties.

I have managed to publish four books with my dyslexia. My mum had learning difficulties and so did my Gran, so I already had that added disadvantage. I was significantly behind at school. In fact it was not the schools who taught me to write, not really. It was my step-dad who came into my life at around 5 years of age. He helped me to catch up with my maths and English and to fit in with the other kids. He had a way with me.

It wasn't until I was 21 that I was told I was dyslexic. All through my mums life she was told she was thick or stupid, but that was a different era back then and I was bought up to believe she was thick, even by family members.

Of course she couldn't help that, and even now trying to analyse her shopping list is like cracking the divinci code, but it doesn't bother her now, because I do not allow anyone to make her feel stupid anymore.

I'm here to say if you want to write DO IT! If people criticise you, remember the following:

  • They may be trying to help, or they maybe being cruel (You need to work that out) whichever way you can still write. You do not need there permission
  • Famous people have learning difficulties including people like Agatha Christie and Stephen.J. Cannell. (Batchelor's degree online blog)
  • I'm not famous, but I have done this despite the odds, and yes, my learning difficulty may not be as extreme as others, but I believe it adds to my creativity.

Please visit this site where you will find famous writers who have faced this struggle.
