I might have just been two when the Original Star Wars Movie came out, but as soon as I was old enough to appreciate it I was hooked and have been ever since throughout the movie franchise. I also liked Lego when I was young, it's caught up alot nowadays and there is a set for everything (I think we have most of them lol) and I was keen to get my boys into it. Being frugal like many things where possible I source used from eBay - kids don't care if it comes in a fancy sealed box as long as they have something to play with. You can save alot and while these three took some building they came with all the parts and instructions and look as good as new when built.
Sometimes you have to search hard to find some set's, Jek 14 above with his Star Fighter is unique to the cartoon Lego Star Wars Yoda Chronicles series - the minifig alone commands high prices so many people buy the full original set - take out the minifig and sell the ship cheap and charge more for the figure. So I bought a reduced price ship with no minifig, and sourced a "Lego Compatible" minifig from China that is pretty much exactly the same.
It doesn't look it from the picture, but the set above is massive. Lego Imperial Star Destroyer - for a sealed new set the price is eye watering - I paid less then a quarter of the list price for a well used and loved one on eBay - no figures but again I sourced plenty to match - the ship can easily fit a good 15 minifigs inside plus three in the top command centre.
I remember I saw it at the theater and loved it. The effects although commonplace now, were so out of this world awesome... Probably like hearing the first radio or seeing the first TV.
