Near death experience and my home-made solution

in lego •  5 years ago

I've recently been a victim of a terrible affliction that struck me down, rendering me incapacitated and near-death for days on end. If I'm totally honest it was actually a double-pronged assault on my health and combined, well, it's miraculous that I survived. But survive I did.

I refer, of course, to Lego-fatigue and Lego thumb. Trust me, you don't want either, such terrible conditions to have.

Lego-fatigue: (Legoitis fatigalitis) Neck and shoulder muscle pain and tightness contracted through prolonged hours of Lego-building, hunching over instructions and straining one's neck looking for tiny lego parts. This affliction is exacerbated by a Lego-building work-station that is too high for the Lego builder. (In my case, the dining table).

Lego-thumb: (Legoenduim thumbalitis) A fairly obviously-named affliction that relates to Lego and one's thumb. This, believe it or not, is where the name derives from. Essentially, Lego being pushed into place by one's thumb leaves said appendage feeling a little sore right at the end of the digit.

Each of these illnesses have no known cure. One either get's better over time, or not. I, fortunately for you because you'd miss my amazing posts, managed to get better - My amazing physical condition and resilience combined with a little luck from the Lego-gods and little by little I clawed my way back from the brink of death.

Since my battle for life, and subsequent miraculous recovery, I have made changes in the hope these afflictions will not return and bring me low all over again.

I have relocated my Lego building-station to my home office, clearing out a whole lot of stupid and unimportant business paperwork in the process. You can see, in the image above, that the workspace is now dedicated to Lego all except the small amount reserved for some pens and a post-it-note pad which I have left to keep up the charade that it is, indeed, a workspace. So, essentially, you're looking at a tax-deductible Lego building work-space.

You can see the Landrover Defender in production in this image but shortly this build will be complete and the Mack Anthem will enter production.

It's unlikely I'll suffer from another near-death experience due to Lego-fatigue or Lego thumb now, although anything is possible I guess; I can't promise that I won't engage in another 6-hour Lego-sesh in the future though so who knows. It's sort of addictive once the build starts...

Anyway, to the person who asked about my Lego building area, you're looking at it here in this image. I'm pleased to have this little area although not as pleased as my wife is that the dining table isn't covered with Lego 24/7 anymore. To be honest though, I think a bigger concern for Faith should be where dafuq are all these Lego builds getting displayed once they are done! 😂

I just sold 75 pounds of recycled assorted Legos in the last 2 weeks, and most of a complex mechanical set. The set was a terror to take apart...

I also went through all of them to extract every minifigure and accessory part to sell separately. There was lots of neck fatigue from looking down for so long at the pieces. I felt your pain. Now I just have to finish building out, dressing up and weaponizing about 75 minifigs...

Cool! Pity I'm not there to grab them.

Building a minifig army? Cool!

The hardest part is not falling for the urge to keep some of them. I've sold a few batches in the past from previous Lego curb hauls. Some of the accessories are really cool though, even as a fully grown man. No shame. You know.

Well, I'm almost 50 and still play with Lego so no shame at all...And at my age if there was shame, I wouldn't feel it or care! 😂

Good..

Good.

Sounds horrible glad you are ok!

Yes, I managed to survive my ordeal.

Glad you are surviving the Lego building we could have lost you.

It was a close thing.

Hilarious dude I was like hmm what happened? Gotta be careful of the LEGO addiction. It’s known to cause arthritis and dehydration due to prolonged building sessions.

Gawd...Don't tell me there's more Lego-afflictions I could suffer!

I get enjoyment out of writing posts and titles in such a way that someone can't really comment properly without reading it fully. Brings me joy. 😂

It also shows who reads titles and who reads the post content lol I like it though, not a lot read it all.

Yep, that's why I do it. Back in the day I used to cut sick at people who didn't read the post but commented (incorrectly) based on the title and photo alone. I made a post once, about a military mate of mine who took his own life after a struggle with PTSD...Naturally it wasn't a happy post and some poor sod commented without reading. I was not kind. 😃

I'm more mellow now, just a cuddly teddy bear and so am less inclined to take it to DEFCON 1 when people do it. Still, it amuses me to do the title/image thing. I might write a post about doing it someday. Hmm, maybe I should offer some steem to the best unrelated-post-title-image...A contest thing. 😂

Could be fun.

And this is why you need decent working conditions, you're lucky ohas didn't ping you and that there was a happy ending XD

An OHAS investigation ensues, and a report is pending. 😜

Who doesn't like a happy ending Ry? That's right...No one.

Glad to hear you recovered from your afflictions. :)

Yep, all good now...Until next time.

lol! That's so funny. Hey, that work area shows how complex those things are, wow. You might have to get special display cases for them. Next is the Mack...how many do they have?

How many models? Hmm, don't know...Heaps though. They are very complex and people get hold of them and so all sorts of after-market stuff. Saw a video of a guy who fully-motorised this Defender build himself, an engineer. Amazing as he had to basically re-engineer the entire thing.

That's incredible. Makes you wonder what they'll be making in ten years.

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

I know, right? Lego humans! Lol.

Yes! someone just told me about lego mindstorm tonight and I looked it up to see videos, wow! I didn't know they were getting into robotics too.

It's cool huh? Lego are massive and are doing some really creative things.

You forgot...

Lego-Bumm-itus...?!?

The Tingling of the buttocks from sitting on it to long....

Logo-anizing (agonizing) over the missing piece.

Leganitus Assifica-numb-itus

is much like the sensation one feels in an extremity (arm / leg) when blood circulation is restricted (also know as a limb falling asleep.
