Seven to ten million people are infected by leptospirosis a year, could you catch it?

I work in a Lamb slaughter plant which kills 1,000,000 lambs every year, my role is in Health & Safety. Recently one of our staff contracted Leptospirosis which is common in the Ovine sheep herds. Ways you can get Leptospirosis is from urine splash entering the eyes, mouth, nose or even through broken skin. There are 13 different types humans can catch most commonly transferred to humans by rodents (rats & mice). Rodents when they travel are actually dropping urine as they walk around, this is so they can attract suitable members of the opposite sex. If you have a rodent problem the chances of contracting leptospirosis are higher as when the rodent urine dries it turns into a powder finer than talcum powder which if they live in the roof space of your house could be picked up by home ventilation systems and pass through the filter and into your home.

Rats, mice, and moles are primary hosts—but a wide range of other mammals including dogs, deer, rabbits, hedgehogs, cows, sheep, raccoons, opossums, skunks, and certain marine mammals carry and transmit the disease as secondary hosts.

Our guy at work was so sick he ended up in intensive care but has since been released from hospital. Symptoms can include raging headaches, feeling run down, muscle aches ,skin rashes & liver and kidney problems.

In a sheep slaughter-plant PPE is the best defense as is personal hygiene habits, leptospirosis has been known to kill people and when you contract it for a second time it is far more aggressive. If i had the choice between a finger being amputated versus catching leptospirosis - take my finger as i can learn to live with that but leptospirosis could kill me!

Infectious disease can't even touch me anymore. This is not medical advice. I use this, and don't get sick, ever.

Nice i will have a look at that - thanks

A million defenseless babies getting murdered every year where you work, but who cares about them... instead, let's worry about the poor little fuckers who got sick whilst helping to kill them.

Forgive me, but I find it very difficult to sympathize with your ailing staff member's position.

it makes money............so who cares?
