Hi steemian, today I would like to share a lesson plan about teaching English as foreign language. I thought the lesson plan quiet succeed, I can say that because after the class, the students were feeling happy and they used to repeat the part of the game from the rule play and they can remember some words and sentences.
I did the observation in the English class, the teacher was my colleague, the teacher was female, and she was young and energetic. The class was grade X, its name was Al-Hazen, it consisted of 25 students. The teacher taught the material about describing animal. The class started from 8.30 to 10.00, it is 90 minutes.
The following table is the situation and description to what had happened during the class.
The Teacher’s step The students’ reaction
Opening and greeting
• The teacher opened the class by greeting and checking the attendance list.
(The students were enthusiasm; it showed they liked the teacher. They showed the motivation since the class started.
Students’ observation)
• The teacher showed some toys representing animal they are camel, bird, horse, duck, and monkey. She questioned the students about the animal’s name in English, the description of what each animal has such as beak, claw, skin, fur and so on, and then where they lived.
(All the students actively answered the questions)
Warming up to the material
• Before coming into the explanation, the teacher started the class by playing a game. The role play was; the teacher divided the students into five groups. Each group should prepare some names of animal and where they lived. Then each group would sing a song, for example;
Group1: Monkey oh monkey, what do you see?
Group2: I see fish in the river, fish oh fish what do you see?
Group 3: I see chicken in the coop, chicken oh chicken what do you see?
And to be continue.
If a group mentioned the same animal’s name, the group will get disqualification and go out of the game until one group won. The group who won was the left group, for the group with high spirit while playing, they were also given the appreciation of the teacher, and so all groups got their motivation to play the game.
(All the students were interesting following the game with the song until one group left and became the winner.)
Exploration
• Then the teacher explained about describing animal and wrote an example of describing an animal, and then the teacher asked students to do exercise by creating a paragraph related to describing an animal, students were free to choose any kind of animal. communication
(The students did the exercise very well and submitted their works to the teacher)
Concluding and closing
• Finally, the teacher asked the students to conclude the material
• And then closed the class.
(The students make the conclusion of the study. The students collected their work, for some students that did not finish yet, the teacher gave the chance until 11 o’clock.)
*My conclusion is a class will be running well if the instruction is clear, guided on every second, and the teacher is creative to make the class interesting.
