is it important to remember scientific names in school?

in sunday (august, 27), i did snorkling in Lhok Me Beach with friends. We picked some marine debris up and captured some corals pic.
when i back home, i do editing and naming the animals that i captured. And Than i ask myself, is it important to remember scientific names in school? i'm not a biology or marine scientist. If i wanna know the name, all i need is google it or find it in books in library.

What is the point of remembering of scientific names, if student dream is to be an athlete, Engineer, etc?
School waste kids time to do unimportant thing and it is suck.

Note : Not Only Remembering of Scientific name, Kids also no need to remember Planets name, Chemical Periodic Table, etc.
