THE UNHEALTYHY LIFE OF AN EMPLOYEE

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

Being an employee is indeed a great privilege for many, especially in a well-known and established company. Ever since, finding a safe and secure job is what it takes to live a good life. People always tend to say, “You should study well so when you graduate, you can apply for a company with a good pay”. Let’s just say that it is really normal for people to find something that will provide for their needs. In that sense, people thrive so hard just to have the opportunity to enter into the corporate world, the world that every students are dreaming of.

It is not that bad to dream of entering that world, it’s just that, not every person belongs into it. It may sound too good when you say that you are working in a good company but what really your life is inside that company? You may have good pay and a lot of benefits but it is not just the company itself. In the corporate world, it is the competition inside the company that you need to face. Working with different kinds of people with different attitude and perspective in life isn’t that easy, particularly in a company wherein the bosses do not know what really happens between the people in the different sections of his business. Same with the military, every system has its own chain of command. In the corporate world, the company’s board members is the highest position, next in line are the managers, the supervisors, and last but most important are the staff.

Usually, the staff are the ones who are really hardworking. Just because they are newbies in the world, they will really push to their limits just to be promoted and that someday, through going up the corporate ladder, they will become the manager of that company. Each staff has their own supervisors who normally give them instructions what to do and not to do. In that case, staff depends on his or her supervisors in every single details of the work. While the supervisors, they will just keep on instructing, telling them what to do, checking their work, signing and submit. Literally speaking, all the work has to be done by the staff but when the credit comes, it is usually given to the supervisors. Staff are barely given credits for the simple reason that they are just a staff. That is why between those who are in the same levels normally arise a competition. The more they are aspiring to be promoted and given credits, the more they became desperate.

Competition is very normal but most of the times, it is not healthy. Not healthy in a sense that is will be hard to create a good and harmonious relationship with your co-worker because you wanted to be better or even the best among them, always. For example, it is typical for employees to have a crab mentality in which they would rather pull you down than to help you get up. One more thing is as much as you wanted to be praised, you would arrive the office even more than one hour before the working time and you will immediately start working. At break time, you are still working, and at the end of the day, you will render an overtime repeat the same routine every day. See, it is really not healthy for you are competing not just with your co-workers but also with yourself. You are exerting more than enough efforts to be seen and praised. You submit yourself that you are even sacrificing your health and time to make your bosses richer and more credits to your supervisors and managers. After all, the company won’t build a monument for your hard work. They might give you a little increase in your salary, just enough for an additional payment for your tax.

Working is never a bad idea but how it is done matters. Know your limits and do not submit yourselves in that company. There a lot of things more important than that and a lot of things that would give you more and stable income. Do not be contented that being an employee describes who you are. Be somebody more than that. If you are really believe that you’re good, you will never settle for being just an employee, for the rest of your life.

Thank you for that compliment @marzukie. It's better to live life outside the corporate world if it doesn't benefit you anymore.
