Gun Violence Is NOT A Mental Health Issue It's A Culture Issue

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

Everywhere I went today all I heard was people saying gun violence is a mental health issue.  But that's not right!  The English language has a glitch, we call Bad people "Psychos".  But that's not really what the word psychopath actually means.  Now there's a whole movement to crack down on people who have been abused and traumatized, as if they were the ones responsible for causing abuse and trauma.  It's absolutely ridiculous.  You should call things what they are.  Bad people are just bad people.

Nowadays, every time there's a mass shooting a huge wave of people go on the news saying that the shooter was a crazy person, and that's crazy!  All of those people on the news are just helping the shooters legal case by calling them crazy.  What we all need to realize is that just because insanity is a popular legal defense for bad people, that doesn't mean that they're actually crazy.  Think about it, of course bad people are going to try lying to get out of trouble.  Telling lies is just part of being bad.

It's important to know the difference between people with real mental health issues and people who are just plain bad.  Hearing voices does not make you homicidal, why would it?  You hear voices every night in your dreams.  Does taking a nap make you want to go out and shoot people?  No, of course not!  Being crazy is not the same thing as being bad.

Being bad inside and filled with hate and violent thoughts are what makes people homicidal.  There are a whole lot of curse words that I could use to describe certain bad people, but if you really think about it, not very many of those words are really accurate.  The English Language has that glitch, I think it's called 'hyperbole'.  That's why we have dumb movements to lock up mental patients, which would basically be equal to arresting folks for catching the flu.

Don't believe me?  The numbers are actually very similar.  Check this out, it's estimated that at least 1 in 10 Americans are prescribed psychotropic drugs.  And anywhere from 5% to 20% (an average of 1 in 10) gets the flu.  And no matter what you want to believe about "crazy people", at least they're not contagious.  Can you say the same thing about bad people?

Very well written and it's sooo true what you write. Describing people as crazy has become an excuse for people to get away with murder literally. I was quite suprised to know how any Americans get prescribed with psychotic drugs, that is worrisome.

interesting

nice post but let's pray GOD and JESUS CHRIST to stop the gun violence

In order to understand current events, you need to understand the past.
America has been controlled by deep state infiltrators for many years.
They have been working to set up their end game, which is about to unfold. Anyone with eyes to see knows the season we are in.

Was pretty informative. knew some of the stuff. not all of it thts shown in the video.

thank you for stopping by. fwd to others

mantab

lol

The mental health issue is just propaganda the NRA and gun manufacturers pay the media to tell people...

This is a simple issue of mathematics, the more guns you have in circulation and the easier it is for people buy guns the more gun deaths there will be. The reason the USA has the most gun deaths than any other country on earth is because the USA has more guns than any other country on earth...

If politicians really wanted to stop gun deaths all they would have to do is duplicate the laws of a country that have less gun deaths, the reason they wont is because they are paid not to...

IMG_20180221_104755.jpg
Willfully incomplete. More guns does not factually equate to more gun death as shown.
IMG_20180221_221855.jpg

What about countries like Switzerland that have mandatory enlistment of males between 18 - 40?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switzerland

Sure, if you make the comparison to countries that are in constant conflict/war and run by drug cartels and oppressive governments, than yes you are correct those countries have less guns than the USA but more gun deaths per capita

implying the US isn't in a constant state of military intervention, ongoing drug war, or an oppressive government.

Sure the US military is on foreign lands, and I don't agree with any of that intervention. But what is going on domestically in some of those countries in your chart is no even remotely close comparable to what goes on domestically in the USA.

That is why most of the time statistical data like this is used only from countries with similar governments and living conditions to the USA...

I am merely showing that murder and gun ownership are not correlated. I am making no further claims.

Thanks for your upvote! Followed and upvoted! Can't resteem because of a bug...

Awesome post

Hi

every body

happy New Year

🎋🎋🎋🎋

I like your content, I'm following you :)

The overlap is in what you call "real mental health issues". People who have biological chemical levels that are way off of the norm is what I assume you mean by "real". I agree there is a difference. The problem is that our culture creates a massive amount of mental health issues: increases in depression/adhd and other issues are from people not functioning well in the constructs of societal boundaries. I have very severe ADHD, but it is only a problem when I am forced to do pedantic tasks with no direct productivity coming out, or work jobs that I can see lead to almost no change in life quality (ie, we may work building computers but if we are building them to break quickly on purpose just to make sure we have a job building computers we start to feel very trapped and rightly so). When i allow myself to sleep when I need to and work at my own pace, and on things that need or actually create something ( even services like massages or working in a restaurant where you create a joyful experience for someone is satisfying- its all of the wasteful time wasting stuff that bums me out) I am an extremely super-productive person. You are right, it is a cultural issue, and our culture is one that creates mentally unbalanced, frustrtated aggressive individuals.

Also, this video talks a lot about how we have been engineered/manipulated by employers over the years- it was a VERY informative video. Misplaced aggression is no joke , and people who are angry without understanding why are even more dangerous and easily manipulated. "Pay on half of the poor to kill the other" is a real thing :/

The gun culture is America is mentally ill. -- AR 15 riffles! that's a battle field weapon . WTF!

#1 sporting rifle

I do not agree gun violence as a culture issue. It could be a personal problem.

I would wager that if you looked at when we took prayer out of school and started our moral decline in the USA. You would find that not long after that we started seeing the effects like these types of shootings. I agree that it a cultural issue. These shooters just excel at being culturally and morally bankrupt.

That was when we first started hearing rumblings, but it was around the mid '90's (when Christianity not only lost its official status but started to become unpopular) that things really got bad.
there are all manner of other factors at play (China, for instance, is an Atheist country and while they've got fifty-five squillion problems gun violence is not one of them unless you count the amount of it that happens at the hands of the PLA), but the loss of morality altogether, which has its roots in the loss of the God, the loss of the entire Judeo-Christian cultural core, is at the root of America's problems right now.

I agree, morals with no real basis other than "just because we said so" aren't really points of strength.

"just because" isn't how morals work. Taking from someone like Kant or Lysander Spooner on natural laws, morals are derived from the logical application of first principle of self ownership. We do not need religion, we need logic.

A big thank you for upvoting my post https://steemit.com/upvoteforupvote/@kingzeus/africa-and-the-western-aid-trend really appreciate it. Upvoted yours and followed.

big question for me: why that people still need the gun, are they don't believe to the police?

well 2 reasons:

  1. a gun is a lot faster than the cops should you need protection
  2. Warren v. DC the police do not have a legal obligation to defend individual people, but the "public good"

Many people are killed every year due to gun violence. It should be banned in our society because many people are greeting hurt! Shame on those people.

A nice lines from you.....i just up voted you now up vote me back to be close please.......https://steemit.com/gaming/@adewale123/guild-war-2

good post!

Interesting. I get your point, and I think it's a good one. I hope you'll revise your essay to clarify and improve it! You can do a lot to strengthen it so that it actually supports the title, which is an excellent topic. although I would suggest you learn more about psychology and work on cleaning up your paragraphs, which contained unclear sentences here and there, leading to confusion.

Clarifications: being crazy doesn't mean you're bad, and being bad doesn't mean you're crazy, but "badness" is generally going to be the result of traumatic events in your life. For example, a high number of war vets end up with mental health issues, some of which are a threat to themselves (such as paranoia, PTSD and depression), and others which are a threat to people around them, too (such as paranoid schizophrenia, associative personality disorder, and violent psychopathology - a subset of APD).

The problem is how to differentiate between someone who is insane and someone who isn't.

Hearing voices in your dreams is not the same as hearing voices when you are awake, so it's not accurate to use that. Voices in your dreams are heard by everyone, except probably for those born deaf. Voices during the waking hours are usually going to be because of mental health or diseases (such as syphilis, which did in Al Capone).

I would say your comparison to locking up mentally ill people to locking up those with the flu is an understatement, if anything, since the vast majority of humans are mentally ill in some way or other. ;)

Finally, your first paragraph was so unclear I had to read further then go back and read it again because you'd unwittingly contradicted yourself. People who have been traumatized are more prone to mental health issues, and they are also more prone to inflict certain types of trauma (physical, emotional and sexual abuse) on others, making it akin to a disease or germ. You might even compare it to a meme on the Internet. For example, bullies are most often children who were themselves abused, and they have a high rate of suicide because they are deeply unhappy. Their victims ALSO have a high rate of suicide AND some of them become bullies or even abusive towards their loved ones. In other words, some types of mental health issues CAN be spread, albeit not necessarily via a germ but, instead, through abuse. A neurotic mother can pass on even a neurosis to her children and/or spouse, even a fairly mild one. In fact, worldwide, most people replay the actions of their parents if they don't realize they have a problem AND take action to change.

Very tnx for give me vote...post is really funnny😂😂😂

Creative Bro !!! :D

woow
I like this post

Great post! Following you!!! People don't realize how words are used against us in the established system. I wish our public education taught us the difference between same words used in legal cases compared to say medical cases, or fixing a machine.

And bad people drive cars everyday, bad people vote, bad people have positions of power. I think the best we can do is make sure we don't let the media put conclusions in our own thoughts. Gun control is not the answer, less prescriptions is not the answer. How about an education that does not teach us how to be isolated and dogmatic?

how fany sir

very interesting the article

I want to agree with you on this but I think there are two different issues in this article that are being combined into one and I having difficulty reconciling them. the gun culture in America is a problem, but mental instability is also a problem. Thanks for the insight.

😀😀😀😀

thanks ,
funny picture

Very good topic you have to know how to differentiate people's mental problems and to take more precautions, blessings

every kind of violence should be minimize

Bad people? Really?!? Peculiar that no one asks what drove people to the point of going into work, or a School, and shooting a bunch of people. Oh, "they must be crazy" is just as bad a copout as, "they're just bad People". Many were not born this way, they were made this way. If you want to look at statistics world wide, it looks like Americans are the worst people on the planet. Somehow I have a very hard time believing that!

Remember that shit rolls downhill, and no one is willing to travel uphill to see where it's coming from.

prozac, ssri drugs, mind control, every persons that has done these mass shooting are under some drug. children as young as 10 on those drugs have killed ther parents or themselves.

An analysis of survey results estimated that nearly 1 in 7 adults has access to firearms and also has a problem with anger and impulsive aggressive behavior.

agree👍

Good posting looked good.
Thank you for visiting my blog.
I will follow you.
Let's communicate frequently

You are absolutely right, naturally when I see and hear a story like that, I automatically think that it is a psycho, but it is not always the case.

I don't think there is such a thing as a bad person, although this could be a way of defining a person that is against the moral parameters of society, and that is something we never want to think about, there are many people like those loose around there, but it is a problem that we do not want to face but we prefer to keep thinking that it does not exist, it is easier and more comfortable for us, and as long as we keep repeating this pattern then this kind of problems will continue to happen.

Crzy shooters wwwk good post👍👍👍👏

It's always safer not to have a gun around than it is to have one! If only more people could believe that.

I think that bad people are not born. They become so influenced by many factors. But my personal opinion, the lion's merit in creating such people falls on the share of our society! Complete indifference to what is happening. Who pays attention to a ragged, hungry child begging on the street? Can someone regret an employee who has been left without work with young children? Or was someone worried that an old, lonely grandmother had not appeared in the courtyard for several days? Therefore, we have what we have. It is unlikely that a person whom society has neglected from childhood will suddenly show him love ... Thank you.

Thanks for looking at my Pigeon Lake post and have a nice day.

Very true there is a big difference between the two words. Using Crazy for bad only tries to justify the act, which is wrong

I Love Banana Not Gun.....hhhhhhh
However nice work.......

Many people are killed every year due to gun violence. It should be banned in our society because many people are greeting hurt! Shame on those people.

very interesting and true especially

Yes I strongly agree with your opinion .... 😍🔫

I am so interested

It is very easy to give opinions and call people crazy, but you have to see why that happens in their heads. sad to know that we are not all reasonable and educated people. I wait for you in my blog, greetings

I totally agree with you on this subject. @anomaly.

nice post

pretty very mage master

it's gonna be okay, I promise.

What makes it even more horrible is the tendency to label the shooters as loners.
There is a whole population of us schizoids who shudder every time this happens.
Being a loner is not a prescription for being a mass shooter.

Well toned article @anomaly

beautiful pictures, my name is akhyasad, may I learned to you about steemit ...?

When there is a lot of freedom in society , we must wait for everything .

Excellent post. Although craziness might be contagious. Many years ago I wrote a series of articles about an insane asylum on a hill outside of town. The head psychiatrist said that when society puts the insane away from society many of the staff and shrinks there also get a little crazy. I think he knew what he was talking about and I have pondered that ever since, but I don't have a solution yet. Oh, except for keeping assault weapons out of the hands of civilians and only used in absolutely necessary wars - of which there are very few.

That's very interesting. The only thing I've ever heard of that can transmit craziness like that is a parasite that comes from cats. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2012/03/how-your-cat-is-making-you-crazy/308873/ I think it can spread from person to person without a cat involved, but cats are where it comes from. The symptoms include fits of rage and extra risky behavior.

Thanks sir to upvoting me again

@anomaly - I understand where you coming from (and there are cultures that are prone to violence - there are many), however I believe that anyone is capable of abusing anything. Even good people have bad moments...just as bad people have good moments.

Thanks for your vote my post,,, suxes for you

They said, Bad people will die bad" because it is already embedded in their being of having no conscience. Im a lover of peace and feel lucky that no shooting incident in my place. God is good, we are sorrounded by good people.

good post

good post

his writing is very constructive

While I would agree with much of what you said. Let us not look at it through a single lens. I lived in the US for a while and was shocked at how medicated that society is. A lot of these medicines are shown to rob people of empathy. Of course, a person without empathy will not think twice about shooting innocent people.

So while I am not discounting the cultural aspect. The fact is that this dependence of meds. should be taken into consideration. How much is it to blame? I don't know. Who knows? Maybe they are not mutually exclusive maybe meds are now apart of the culture. Either way. This $h1t is just crazy.

who profit from the meds, there are natural solutions but no money in it.

you are so right, that is why firms have paid for research that says natural remedies do not work and natural healthcare is trying to be silenced.

Fantastic post

The gun culture is America is mentally ill, AR 15 riffles! that's a battle field weapon

Interesting issue. By the way, in german language we use these "bad-health-words" for bad people aswell. The thing is, that we first need a definition about what is the state of being "ill". Is it possible to be ill and bad at the same time? Someone is guilty for the part of "bad"... but also for the part of "bad illness". In any case it is important to protect ourself from possibly both, the bad people and the "sick in mind bad people".

20180218_101609.jpg

lol, that's cool!

It's so sad. Thinking about that makes me very upset.

Yes, and too easily some people label other's as crazy just because of different opinion's.

that is true

We let people with mental health issues down in this country. I agree usually the two are not related but in some cases they are. I'm all for gun control for people with mental health issues. But I would also like to see more care provided for those with these issues we can't keep failing them.

great ..!!very interesting the article good work my friend up vote for you !!

It is true that bad people are bad and in most cases it is a culture problem, I totally share your opinion with you. Thanks for sharing and happy night

all human beings have the potential for crazy.
in a developing country that leads to democratic rights, the madness is also a right for all its citizens and for humans.
I think the Zionists are wrong in deciphering this, they are a great sin against their colonies.
little children who never sinned they killed, this is a very crazy form of behavior.
Madness who tried to take advantage of the situation of democracy is wrong.

im very agree with your opinion 👍

Interesting sir

what's that banana sister ...?

yeah! very interesting post!

I totally agree with u @anomaly...

I am so sad for the families who suffered such massive killings like I heard the news somewhere in US, I coudn't remember where exactly.

Good point @anomaly. I never really thought of it that way before as it is automatic to think, “He has to be crazy to kill those people.” I guess it is our mind trying to reason how someone do such a horrible thing to innocent people. But, as you pointed out, there has to be a badness/evil within the person to commit these shootings.

with the proper drugs and a proper trigger the most docil and quiet person can become a shooter and do not know why or remember. just like a person taking ambien for sleep,. get in their car go to the store and when they wake up the do not remember they took that trip. the meds tell you it can cause sleep walking and a loss of memory and if you have a glass of wine, you will piss on your door and do not remember. just saying

I see your point @ noloner and realize a lot of these people in said situations have used sleep walking and drugs as a defence for their crimes.
I guess the question is-is it possible to go against your principles or where they never your principles to begin with?

Estoy de acuerdo en que es un problema cultural. esta situación se esta presentando a nivel mundial y hay que reflexionar referente a esta problemática salud

Hello friend @anomaly, that is, there are people who are very bad and we have to be careful, we want this world to be different and surrounded by good people, but God is the one who knows things and while we have to be better people every day, thanks for sharing

Excellent approach to the subject. Very relevant post @anomaly.

Yes! People with mental illness are overwhelmingly more likely to suffer violence than to cause it.

I am by no means a gun nut, I actually have a phobia of them, plus I think the NRA are profiteers of misery.

However, I am convinced that the current project is to use DARPA developed facistbook algorithms to round up thought criminals.

I have been a mental health activist foreva. I am "Out Crazy", proud to be bipolar, because neurodiversity is part of being human.

There is a whole program in place hinted at in The Minority Report.

Hii

Good posting. Thank you for visiting my blob.

Great really enjoyed that 👏

True sometimes it seems to that people believe they can weaken the evil by making an illness out of it. But in reality they provide greater freedom to evil people when their moralty isn't questioned anymore. On the other hand "sick"is a far more dangerous term than "evil". An evil person can change but an ill person? "ill" is lable where it is harder to get rid of. So why changing behabiour if your label will stay the same...
