Effective Teamwork in Conflict Resolution + SteemFlagRewards Proposal

in life •  6 years ago  (edited)

There is always going to be someone that disagrees with you from time to time. That is inevitable. How will you deal with conflict in your team?

Hopefully, not like this

How we deal with it can produce vastly different results. If the conflict is between team members, it is easy for the issue to bleed over into team dynamics. We don't want that.

With that being understood, it is essential for the team to be prepared to deal with conflicts effectively and resolve them with minimal impact. It is necessary to have a sound methodology to achieve this so let's discuss that. I have a proposal for the organization know as @steemflagrewards as I understand there may be a need currently.

First, a role known as mediator should be instated.

Both parties will explain their side of the problem and the mediator will be charged with finding a fair solution.

Mediation activity will be logged and available to SFR Discord's users for transparency. This role will rotate quarterly.

There will be compensation for executing the duties assigned to this role which include but are not limited to:

  1. Contacting parties in disagreement to set up interviews.

  2. Interview both parties. Assess the nature of the disagreement and identify probable solutions.

  3. Present the potential solutions and discuss in a conflict resolution session with the mediator moderating.

  4. Based on feedback from conflict resolution session, present acceptable solution on the blockchain with both parties signing their affirmation as comments.

With 4 easy steps, the conflict has been resolved.

That's the vision at least. Think the execution will be the responsibility of others. What's important is it was done in a satisfactory manner for both parties. This boosts morale and good morale is just good business.

What if one party is being unreasonable?

If that's the case, it is the mediators job to find out. In such instances, the mediator will present the facts to a committee consisting of the SFR stakeholders to determine the best course of action.

We want to prevent it from getting to that point but that is where bad things can happen such as revocation of permissions, Discord roles etc. I will not be the judge of these outcomes. It will be democratic process.

If you are part of the SFR staff and accept this general proposal for the mediator role assigned to conflict resolution duty, please comment with your concurrence of the proposal as stated. If you do not concur, please do the same but please add your reasoning and possible alternative proposal.

As a stakeholder, obviously I concur with my proposal as stated and, if the consensus is for the proposal, I will work with my colleagues to refine said proposal with all the minutia pertaining to the implementation thereof.

Even if you are not a stakeholder, I would be glad hear your perspective and experiences on this issue.

Now, that I have your attention. Don't forget to check out @steemflagrewards. We have devised a system to reward your valuable downvotes against the abuse that plagues the blockchain.

That's all she wrote. See y'all next time

it is easy for differences among team members to cause conflict. However, the solutions are often discovered in the tension that results between the values brought to the situation by different team members.

Yes, the values are made apparent which is a good thing. Determining the best compromise which is optimal for business seems to be the tough one.

It does take a degree of analysis so think it is good for a dedicated person to try and figure out. I mean I could do it but I know that I have X number of conflicts I can deal with so the key is finding a solution that is scalable.

A few questions

Are we looking to resolve disputes within the @steemflagrewards team, users of @steemflagrewards or anyone on the blockchain?

Would the parties seeking a resolution, both need to agree for the mediation to take place?

What powers would the mediator have to enforce a decision? What happens if one party later breaks the terms they agree to?

Who's resources would pay for the mediator? Are those delegating to SFR going to see a benefit from this service?

I am not pro or against, just trying to understand the concept better.

Thanks for caring about the steem blockchain!

@kabir88

This is more for internal matter. The key question is whether or not we have a line of authority in our operation or is it more decentralized (albeit a centralized set up), where no one is anyone's subordinate, and the members just have different roles and are compensated accordingly.

Bottom line is, it comes down to respect and communication.

Are we looking at a separate role or additional duties for the staff? Or should we "outsource" this issue to a third party?

Hmm you bring to light a good point that is the intended impartiality of the mediator.

A third party mediator would likely be more probe to impartiality but at the same time may be less understanding of the nuance of the issues that you or I would be savvy.

For that reason, I would opt to not use a third party but rather someone whose character has shown a propensity to being objective but is involved enough to know understand the ins and outs of the situation.

We could always educate an outsider but is it really worth the additional overhead? That's the question.

Then, it has to be kept within the staff. I don't like drama.

Agreed. I think I know a few ppl that would be good for the job. It takes a certain temperment.

The goal is keeping both people in and working to achieve mutual goals we have for SFR. People are our greatest asset always.
