DOES OUR STOMACH BLUSH?

The answer is YES. But how and when? Let’s figure it out.

HELLO!

My dear fellow steemians, today I would like to talk about how our stomach can blush like our face.

Blushing is the reddening of a person's face due to any physiological or psychological reasons. One can blush when they feel shy, ashamed or embarrassed. Just about any situation can bring on intense blushing and it may take one or two minutes for the blush to disappear. We all blush when someone compliments us. Don’t we?

Studies show that when we blush, not only our face but our stomach lining also turn red.

So, what do we know about the physiology of blushing?

Some people are very responsive to emotional stress. When they are stimulated due to embarrassment, the person's sympathetic nervous system will cause blood vessels to open wide, flooding the skin with blood and resulting in reddening of the face. In some people, even the ears, neck and upper chest may also blush. As well as causing redness, blushing can sometimes make the affected area feel hot.

The psychology of blushing:

Charles Darwin quoted blushing as “the most peculiar and most human of all expressions.” Some as well believe that ‘blushing’ actually is a signal to communicate our emotions to other people.

We can communicate our shyness, embarrassment, or shame by becoming red in the face.

Blushing is not just limited to our face!

Studies show that when we blush, not only our face but our stomach lining also turn red. It is a response that is the result of the sympathetic nervous system causing increased blood flow throughout the body. It’s a normal phenomenon, just like getting butterflies when we think about special someone. During periods of embarrassment, the body releases adrenaline, a hormone that prepares the body for stressful situations. Adrenaline also makes the blood vessels dilate in order to improve blood flow and oxygen delivery in case the body has to suddenly flee a dangerous situation. The veins in the face, as well as in the stomach lining and throughout the rest of the body, then have more blood than normal flowing through them, and they become red.

THAT’S ALL FOR TODAY!
