Skate playdate

in life •  7 years ago

I got out of work at 1 yesterday (as I always do) and headed over to the local community center where they have an outdoor skate park.
It is gated and locked, as it's right next to a school. I had a couple hours to kill before the gates opened at 3, so I went inside the building. This was where I played my one and only derby bout.

Memories

One of my friends showed up a little early, too, so we chatted a bit, so I didn't have to sit alone looking like a creeper.

I just wanted to get in and spend some time on that halfpipe

When my other friend showed up with her daughters...then another new derby skater showed up, it looked like we might have the place to ourselves for awhile.
I got some runs in on the half-pipe, skated around to some of the other ramps and basically just tried to keep moving. I'd love to just feel more comfortable on wheels.
I was having fun, but my derby friend is super intense. She's an aggressive skater and makes me nervous to skate too close to her.
So I tried to stay away until she went into the bowl for a bit, then the young skate boarders showed up and it got a little too crowded for my liking.
I got in a half hour, but was disappointed that I couldn't share the ramp with my friend but whaddaya gonna do, right?

I think I am not made for groups though. I will just stick to sneaking off to skate alone, or wait for my more sensible, calm friends to join me.

On another note, though, I was a little sore from all the extra physical activity I've been adding to my life, I went out for my morning run/walk. I had to cut the running short, as my lungs were struggling (it's very windy and chilly this morning).
The sky never disappoints.

Chicks in bowls! Be careful, my stupid toe suddenly made everything 100 times harder, so don't break anything!

My purple toenail is finally fading back to normal after my solo skate day 2 weeks ago. My stupid feet always hurt...i've worked with taped toes before ;)
Hope your toe is feeling better by now at least.

I also have extra accident insurance that I got when I played derby and never bothered to cancel.

wow. I have not had those type of roller skates on since 1975. I was wicked as a kid with roller skates. the kind that you wear on your shoe with a key to make them tight. I did run however, very very hot. great idea for exercise you and those chicks.

I got skates for my 7th birthday (if i remember correctly) but lived on a dirt road, the nearest rink was about 30 minutes away, and all our rooms were carpeted, no basement. But @donnadavisart lived across from a massive church parking lot so spending summers there was the best. I could only really go forward and back though...nothing special. It is a wonderful thing to be able to do it again as an adult!

yes, I would think so. enjoy and keep sending us pics. xx
