The first epistle of Saint Peter explains the meaning of the blessed life: "Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing." 1 Peter 3:9.
The evil is a form of error and a deprivation of the good, "we say bad to the man deprived of virtue", Thomas Aquinas.
To be blessed means to fear God, to be patient, meek; that is to say not to answer the error with another error. Only when we learn to make the correct decisions, wisely, do we receive the promises of the Sermon on the Mount.
The kingdom of God means dominion, empire of God's perfections: empire of mercy, dominion of wisdom, realm of continuous improvement. Holiness consists of not wishing evil on anyone, not even on one's enemies, this is the true meaning of the unconditional love, the love without passion: "Charity is patient, charity is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self- seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs", 1 Corinthians 13:4.
The apostle Peter with this teaching is reminding us that we are all subject to the law of return, the universe gives us back what we give it: "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life", Galatians 6:7-8.
Sowing error means reaping curse, the apostle continues his teaching in the epistle as follows:
"Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it."
1 Peter 3:10-11
The blessed life is to search the correct and the best, the correct for the spiritual gift of counsel and the best for the piety.
