How the crypto-community saved me from my chemistry degree.

It's been a while since I last posted ans so I wanted my next post to be about something I was sure you would all find interesting.

With all my posts I want to try and follow a theme. The theme being, I reveal a little something about myself that you guys can maybe connect with. So I hope you guys will enjoy my story and learn a little more about the guy behind the handle.

After revealing the country I study in, I am now revealing WHAT I study and how the cypto-community saved me from it!

The Love

If you haven't figured out by now, my current study of choice is indeed chemistry. From a young age I have always been interested in the sciences. Physics and more specifically quantum mechanics is probably the area of science that first properly garnered my interest in them. I thoroughly enjoyed being completely puzzled at how a particle could be both a particle and a wave, or by the famous Schrodinger's cat paradox, and of course by string theory! Even though Netflix wasn't properly around back then, binge watching science documentaries, with Brian Greene as my ever faithful guide, to me represented the most exciting and thought-provoking way I could spend my weekends.

It was during secondary school and college (or junior and senior year of high school for the Americans) that my interest in chemistry started to bloom. It was from learning so much about physicists such as Albert Einstein, Marie Curie and Ernest Rutherford that I slowly started to become more interested in the cousin of physics, chemistry. Lavoisier and Mendeleev are two of my favourite chemists period. Both their contributions to the field of chemistry are near unmatched and are deserving of their superstar status to us chemists. It is because of them that my flirtatious advances with chemistry became a fully fledged love affair.

The Struggle

Despite my very palpable love for chemistry, the love I held for the subject started to wain once deep into my undergraduate studies. The subject I eagerly loved to study became a sour mix of problem sheets, uninspiring lecturers and never-ending laboratory work. Instead of working hard at chemistry because of my abundant interest and self-motivation, I worked hard at chemistry because the alternative of not working hard was failure. This simply was not an option considering the large financially burden I had undertaken by attending university. With this in mind, I knew I had to escape and find a new passion... A new obsession.

Discovering the crypto-community

Those who have read my previous post will know, much like Jon Snow, I knew nothing about cryptos or anything of the sort till January of this year. However, once I had discovered this community, there was no letting go. I would (and still do) frequent every thread on Reddit that has anything to cryptos. I just love absorbing and learning as much as possible from so many people with their own unique experiences. In addition, what can not be understated, is the sheer niceness of the crypto-community. The genuineness I felt from this community is the sole reason I spend so many hours of my life reading and learning so much about the crypto-space.

I hope that the current community can continue to be so welcoming and genuine like it has been so far in all of my interactions with it. I hope that just like it saved me, it can save others who themselves may have become disillusioned with certain areas of their lives.

Stay the way you are.
