Hi I'm Danny! I'm travelling around the world! Follow my posts.
The Ngorongoro crater is a diverse area of savannah grassland, forested areas, rivers, and ravines creating a haven for an abundance of wildlife. Incredibly, the crater also has its own self contained weather system.
We were admiring the marshland and long grasses when we suddenly realised we weren't alone.
Look carefully at the picture above and you can see two full grown elephants almost completely hidden by the long grasses!
I've written before about the famous Wildebeest migration in Tanzania but inside the crater it's very different as only 20% migrate outside of this natural enclosure each year.
Out of all the animals I saw in the crater one of my favourites was the unlikely warthog. This animal is known as one of the "ugly 5". Can you name the other 4?
One of the quirkiest things about these animals is how they feed resting on their knees.
As the day was coming to a close we saw an ostrich, thomson gazelle, and a zebra together in the safe cover of the shrub land.
It was a real serene moment watching this unusual trio of friends feeding together.
