Hi I'm Danny! I'm travelling around the world! Follow me.

Today we made our way to one of the rivers close to the lodge that was home to the much feared fresh water fish the Piranaha.

Piranhas have one of the most powerful bites of all fish, and with that they are incredible predators. They are indigenous to the many rivers that cover The Pantanal. We went down to the river to do some fishing..

I have absolutely no idea how to fish - I've never been able to get the hang of it... but with Piranha you don’t need any skills at all.

You dangle the wire with a tiny bit of meat and the Piranha go absolutely crazy attacking the meat. It’s without doubt the easiest fishing I’ve ever done.

Once we caught them we made a little fire and cooked the fish. It was quite bony but the meaty flesh is very tasty.

For anyone wondering - we didn’t take a swim in this particular river!

I'm impressed.

Wow Incredible, great angler. You get a piranha fish. The fish has a very horrible tooth. I am also a fishing hobby but the fish is not in the area where I live. Thank you for sharing :-)

wow
simply awesum!!

This is what my camping trips usually look like as well except for the scary fish . Good catch !!

So actually, piranha aren't as dangerous as most people think. There have been a handful of fatal attacks in recorded history, but they're generally when people can't get to shore. If this woman fell in, it would be unpleasant when she got a bunch of tiny bites, but as long as she didn't go for a long swim, she would be fine.

The folklore of the killer piranha swarms comes from Teddy Roosevelt. He was in the Amazon, and the locals, wanting to impress him, caught a massive amount of piranha, kept them cordoned off without feeding them, and then when Roosevelt was watching, they threw a cow in to be eaten. The sheer volume of piranha combined with their starvation caused a huge feeding frenzy and the cow was devoured. Roosevelt mentioned that feeding frenzy in a book he wrote, and from that point on piranha were known as killers. Realistically though, they don't pose much of a threat to humans beyond the pain of being bitten.

Doesnt mean im gonna go sticking my hand in there.

What an adventure! Piranhas are some of the most fascinating fish in my opinion, and they have strength in numbers. Just check what happens when you drop 1lb of meat off the side of a dock in Rio de Janeiro. Don't fall in! ☺️

Awesome post! I have always wanted to fish for Piranha! Thanks! @jbcoin
