"I Can't Do This."

I wanted to just throw an honest stream of thought post out there after a week of being on Steemit. It has been quite the experience. When I first signed on I had no idea it would bring back the initial excitement I had with bitcoin just at a different level.

It also brought back the feelings I had when I first started diving into software development. There is an idea that is used a lot in the software world (although it did not originate there) called imposter syndrome.

Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon or fraud syndrome or the imposter experience) is a concept describing high-achieving individuals who are marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a "fraud".

The high-achieving part is debatable in my case but the feeling of being a fraud is real. When I first started learning development it was TOUGH. It is quite the learning curve and I thought I couldn't make it so many times. You start to define yourself by your past achievements and I am 39yrs old. Quite a few years behind on this stuff.

It turns out though I had a passion for it. I remember going to a meetup and a 15yr old kid did a presentation on Koa.js and node. I.WAS.LOST. Seriously lost. But despite feeling really humbled, I got excited. I learned something. I kept going and I feel like I have a pretty strong grasp of JavaScript. In fact, my full time job is as a software developer now.

So when I started learning more about Steem and the cryptocurrency world these same thoughts started to come up. I thought I had a good grasp of the blockchain but BOY have things changed!

There is so much going on and so many parts to it that it is hard to explain to friends or when I do I start to feel those old imposter feelings again. But then I remember time.

Over time I was able to understand the concepts that 15yr old taught us that night. Over time I was able to build an application my wife is using for her business to help them solve a specific problem.
Over time I became a software developer.

Over time you and I will become experts in steem and cryptocurrency. Over time we can make an impact on this community, the cryptocurrency space and the world.

I (We) can and will do this. 🎉

I love this. :)

I really enjoyed getting lunch with you today. You are soaking things up at a speed that took me years and years of pouring through random discussions on bitcointalk to even start to understand. You are moving really quickly. I'm impressed.

Lunch was great!

It is a lot of fun going through this stuff.
