My Simpler Life
To make your life simpler you need to know what is complicating it. Do this exercise as a starting block. I do it regularly to make sure everything is easy.
Take a paper and pencil, make a note of all the things that complicate your life. Are you short of money and don't know where it goes? Write it down. Can't get a good night's sleep? Write it down. Hate delivery drivers who don't give you time to answer the door? Write it down.
You will end up with quite a list. Writing the list is cathartic in itself. The list will serve to spur you on when you are working on making your life simpler. You can look at it and remind yourself why you are simplifying. You can also give yourself a pat on the back as you sort out the items you wrote down.
The ' Getaway Fund'
freeimageslive
Even if you are in debt, what I call 'a getaway fund' is a very reassuring thing to have. I started mine during a very unhappy marriage I used to have. My fund was in case I needed to escape from my partner urgently. I could only afford to add small amounts to it but it did mount up.
Having a getaway fund helps relieve stress when you have money problems. Pay off the minimum amounts until there's enough in the fund to pay something off properly. It's a long-term strategy but it worked for me.
You Only Need One
It's true, you know. You only need one of most things.
Walk around your home finding the duplicates. Do you have more copies of a book? What about duplicate DVDs? Bathroom products? Somehow I ended up with 2 loo brushes, haha.
Put all the duplicates away for 6 months. If you haven't needed them, dispose of them.
I hope these posts are helpful to some of you.
