One of the most beautiful parts about homesteading, interacting with nature on a different level.

Mamma dog (Brandi Dog) went to protecting this little critter after we found him curled up on our porch! We tried to place him away from the house so his mamma could find him, but the coyotes were out and decided to save the little deer's life.

Butternut growing up, Hanging out with Calicat and a chicken.

Butternut became best friends with Dusty Rooster my Husky-Pyrenees mix. They would run from one end of the ridge to the other, all the neighbors knew them and were amazed the the dog had a deer... lol. But when Brandi was running with them Butternut would keep close to Brandi since she could not keep up.

We never kept him locked up and never forced him to stay, he just became a part of the farm until this last fall when he went off to find some does. We truly miss him, as he was such an awesome part of our little homestead for a while.

What a sweet story. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks.

I absolutely positively need a baby deer friend! How fortunate you were to be able to make friends with him. I bet he will come back to visit, if he can!! <3

I'm sure he will, he was so sweet!

What a beautiful memory to have and share! I love the exciting, quiet, not-able-to-be-bought adventures that happen in this homesteading life. Wouldn't trade to get the convenience of our former city days, ever!
