The true meaning of life re-discovered

Since the fall, God’s image in the heart of man has been defaced. Instead of using his intelligence and speech for good, man puts them to the service of evil. Instead of being like God, he resembles Satan, the father of lies. God has said, ‘Let Us make man in our own image, according to our likeness’ (Genesis 1: 26).
Why did God make man in His image? Because God wanted man to be His son, and because nothing gives a father more pleasure than to have a child who takes after him. But by disobeying the Creator, man began to resemble Satan! What would a father say if his son began to take after his worst enemy? Would not this be more painful than even the death of his son? God could no longer bear the sight of the man whom He had created. He had a break off relations with man. But as we have already seen, God did not cease to love men. He did the impossible to save them. Jesus Christ has made them a gift of his perfect righteousness, and the Holy Spirit gives them a new life. From now on, those who receive this salvation rediscover the true meaning of life. They can again resemble God and become His sons (1 John 3:1-2; John 1:12).
